Bettison Wins Award for Article Examining Predatory Offender Registry

Bettison was recently awarded the “Elmer H. Wiblishauser Author’s Award” presented by the Minnesota State Board Association for her article published article in Minnesota Bench and Bar titled, “The New Scarlet Letter – Is Minnesota’s Predatory Offender Registry Helping or Hurting?” In the article, Bettison explores the complex and challenging topic of Minnesota’s registry, enacted in 1991.

The award acknowledges the author of the best article contributed to Bench & Bar publication during the previous year. To determine the award winner, the Publications Committee looks for quality of writing, timeliness of subject matter, the scope of interest to lawyers within the profession, and effectively capturing reader interest.

The award is named for the late Elmer H. Wiblishauser, an integral member of the Publications Committee for over 30 years, as well as a five-term treasurer of the MSBA. In the late 1950s, Wiblishauser led the effort to create the Author’s Award, distinguishing thought leaders in their field.

This year, the Publications Committee awarded Stacy Bettison and Justice Paul Thissen with the “Elmer H. Wiblishauser Author’s Award,” at the meeting of the Assembly on June 30, 2021. Congratulations to both award winners!
